Blood Work

Our clinic has a full IDEXX lab suite for various in-house blood, urine and fecal analyses. The prompt results enable us to initiate a treatment plan and make appropriate recommendations. Blood tests are, among other things, used for disease diagnosis, prevention, pre-surgical testing, medical follow-ups, etc.

Why is it important to perform blood tests?

Our veterinarians often recommend blood tests when your pet is sick and sometimes even as a preventative measure. We routinely perform heartworm and Lyme disease screening on site, as well as geriatric profiles of your aging companions. Sometimes the physical examination is not enough to make a diagnosis and the veterinarian will need to perform blood tests. These can indicate immediate health problems or alert us of future problems.

How long does it take to get blood test results?

Some blood tests are sent to an outside lab and results may take a few days, but the majority is done in-house and has a quick turnaround time. It might take 48 hours for the veterinarian to call you with the results. Urgent cases will be processed more quickly.

How often should blood tests be performed?

Preventive blood tests are usually performed once a year during the annual check-up. Some medical conditions may require closer monitoring to assess drug efficacy and blood tests will be performed more frequently.
