Diagnosis and treatment of skin-related conditions that can cause discomfort, pain, and illness.
Skin disorders are a common reason to consult a veterinarian. Let us guide you through your pet’s diagnosis and treatment.
Skin infections can have several symptoms. We often observe excessive itching, constant licking, unpleasant odours emanating from the skin and ears, scabs, flaky or scaly skin, hair loss, skin redness and even recurrent ear infections. The most common causes of these clinical signs are: environmental or food allergies, parasites, endocrine and immune system disorders. We can perform several diagnostic tests (cytology, skin scrapping, cultures, blood work, elimination diet, biopsy, etc.) to zero in on a diagnosis. Let our team advise you during a veterinary consultation.
Dermatophytosis, more commonly known as ringworm, is a mycotic skin infection caused by various fungi. Symptoms may include flaky or scaly skin, scabs and hair loss. We will recommend the most appropriate treatment for your pet once the diagnosis has been made. Please note that dermatophytosis is a zoonotic disease.
Skin allergies are usually related to food and the environment. There are several approved treatments for your pets. Our team will be able to assist you with the different treatment options during a dermatology consult.
Skin mites (Demodex, Sarcoptes) and external parasites, such as fleas, are the most common skin parasites encountered in our clinic.
Hypothyroidism and hyperadrenocorticism (aka Cushing’s syndrome) are endocrine diseases that often cause skin disorders. Once the diagnosis has been made, we will offer you the most appropriate treatment for your pet with regular follow-ups.
